Dove Release Policy

Dana and I include the releasing as a part of our service. If you desire to release the doves we will gladly instruct you in how to properly hold the dove and  release it.

We do not use the pet store type "Barbary" doves often called ring neck or turtledoves. These type of doves do not have the homing instinct.   It would be cruel to release these doves into the wild, however they do make excellent pets and exhibits for indoor displays because of their gentle nature.

There are nearly 300 species of pigeons and doves. They comprise the family Columbia. In this group, the name dove is generally given to the smaller and gentler members. The dove is known as a symbol of love, peace and spiritually. Because as they mate for life a good example for all of us.

We hold to these principals

  • To return deposits for acts of God, etc...
  • To NOT release birds INDOORS...
  • To NOT release birds AT NIGHT...
  • To NOT release birds in INCLEMENT WEATHER...
  • To NOT ship birds by mail for self-release...
  • To NOT release birds beyond a range they are unable to safely fly...
  • To Ensure that EVERY event has at least one knowledgeable release coordinator present.

What happens to the birds after they are released?

Dana & I  release only  well trained and well conditioned healthy white doves (white racing homers). They have been specially bred for their homing instincts to return to their original home. More often then not, they are waiting for us when we get home to feed them.

I  have been raising and training pigeons for over forty years and take great pride in our flock.  All our birds are banded and have been trained to return to our loft. They can only be released at a distance they can safely return from

We must allow plenty of time for them to come home before dark. Preferably 1 hour or more before sunset.  Release time must be adjusted according to flight distance
